Climate Change: Trump Cutting Back Obama’s Fuel Regulations

Some people believe that our climate is changing based on human actions. This is something that could affect our future, and the future of our planet. Therefore, it is something we should take seriously. Knowing about the environment is an important thing. It’s also important to know how we affect it. Former President Obama placed many regulations on pollution and the release of harmful gases. President Trump has decided to review the Clean Power Plan and is planning on limiting these restrictions and regulations. He believes the restrictions are too strict and that they aren't necessary. While these restrictions were placed on many areas of production, what drew my interest was the automobile industry. According to most research, cars contribute to a substantial amount of the pollution that is changing our climate.

Trump to Undo Vehicle Rules That Curb Global Warming

This article explains Obama's policy. It also explains why automakers believe the rules are too expensive to meet. The standards are so high not even all the electric cars can meet them. In order to try and meet them, the auto industry would have to spend hundreds of billions of dollars. If they could meet these standards, the amount of pollution released into the atmosphere would be extremely reduced. Opponents of Trumps decision believe that his plan will hold back the US and make us not as competitive against other countries due to lack of electric cars. Once again, I feel as though this article gave us straight facts and helped to support both sides of the issue. However, they did lack enough sources to back themselves up. Their sources were basically explanations of what things were instead of data and facts that back up their claims. While this helps me to understand the topic, it doesn't help build my trust in their information.

Trump Set to Roll Back Federal Fuel-Economy Requirements

This article focuses on how careful the EPA needs to be. First, they don’t want any issues with the states. If all 50 states had different rules, the entire auto industry would be a mess. Also, they need to decide if Obama's plan was constructed too quickly or if there is enough evidence that meeting his regulations would be too costly to the American people. They also need to keep the climate in mind. This decision alone will have a big effect on our environment. Therefore, it is very important. This article showed where each side is coming from. They didn’t have any sources to back up their information. I believe that is a bad sign, but I do think they did a good job of staying neutral and focusing on facts instead of bias. I just wish I knew where these facts were coming from.

Trump begins rollback of Obama's car pollution standards to curb emissions

In the beginning of the article, it discussed the pros for changing Obamas restrictions. It mentioned that the Obama administration was in a hurry when they passed these regulations and that they probably didn’t take the time to look into all the data. It talked about how limiting these restrictions would bring back jobs and how making good cars is more important than worrying about how much fuel it uses. Towards the end, the article focused on the cons. It said that the auto industry has complained that restrictions were far too difficult before but still managed to reach them. It also explained how changing the restrictions could hurt the environment. Lastly, it shed light on the fact that, although it would raise the cost of cars, Americans would save money in the long run due to getting better fuel mileage. I really liked this article. It showed both sides and provided support of its claims. It made me trust them and their motives for writing the article.

Trump’s plan to roll back Obama’s fuel economy rules for cars, explained

This article explains the obstacles in the way of making changes to Obamas plan as well as the reasons for it. There are a lot of legal and formal processes for the plan to be changed. There are also things that the states could do to counteract these changes. Therefore, the EPA must be careful with how much they alter. Otherwise, they could end up in court. On the other side, the plan needs to be changed because the current standards are too difficult and costly to meet according to the auto industry. Meeting these requirements drives up the cost of automobiles and lowers their sales. For these reasons, the whole situation is tricky. I believe that this article did a good job of showing the positives and negatives of both sides. Also, they had pretty good sources to back themselves up. Through further research, I learned that Brad Plumer has always been a writer and has been focusing on climate change. This makes me trust him more because he should be more knowledgeable on this subject.

Trump Rolls Back Obama-Era Fuel Economy Standards

This article states that Trump has decided to take away some of these restrictions because automakers say that the cost of meeting them is so high it raises car prices higher than what the average American can afford. Although Trump is reviewing and wanting to limit these regulations, many people have not changed their mind. Lots of people still are concerned about causing too much pollution and hurting the climate. Also, there are still plans to make, sell, and improve electric cars. The people behind the electric cars say there is no talk of slowing down their work at all. They still believe in their product. This article seems to support the left side of things, but it seems to rely on facts. The problem with this article is its lack of sources. This is important because it should make the reader question where they got this information from. It makes me lose trust in the facts that were provided.

Trump Signs Executive Order Rolling Back Obama-Era Energy Regs

According to this article, the Clean Power Plan needs to be edited. President Trump believes that it has taken away jobs and restricted businesses. He says that there are too many regulations. There are some people who disagree with the president and say that he is hurting our future. There are also some people who say this won’t even increase the number of jobs. Regardless, there are many people very pleased with this notion who support the president’s plan. Something that struck my interest about this article was the fact that there was no author listed. It makes me question where this is coming from and why someone wouldn’t want their name attached to their work. You can tell this is a conservative article because it defends Trump.
