1963 South Vietnamese coup

President Ngo Dinh Diem of South Vietnam was deposed by a group of Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) officers. US officials were aware of the impending coup and made no attempts to stop it. The now Central Intelligence Agency plays a roll in coordination of the coup.

Marines hit the Beach

3500 Marines land in Da Nang. Their initial task is to provide security for and improve military installations in and around Da Nang. These Marines will be the start of the US troop buildup, by the close of 1965 more than 200,000 US troops will be in Vietnam.

1975 Spring Offensive
