The ident below is one of Channel five's first idents. This was before their re brand in 2011 and so channel five was named five. As you can see, although it is quite recent, it is also very old fashioned. The main purpose of this ident is to create a brand identity while also creating brand loyalty. This is apparent as no other information is seen on screen. They are purely trying to create an image. This is seen, one way, by the use of their design. The ident simply a women in front of a tube, having the letter 5 reflected on her face. The colors of the light is quite bright and essentially the only color on screen. This may reflected that the channel is quite bright and also that it is the only light in this girls life. This creates their brand identity as it allows the person watching to get an incite into the girls life. This also creates brand loyalty because the logo is the main object which is in the center, therefore foregrounding it. However, they show two different logos. One with the logo being and word while the other one being a logo. This may become confusing and people watching may not know the channel by the logo. There is not much on screen but the color seems to make the screen seem crowded. The color is also primarys color which might represent the boldness of the channel.

This next one was from 2005. Again it is quite recent but about mid way through the overall time of the show. As you can see the purpose has changed. Rather than just branding the channel, it also gives out information. It tells us about the next couple of programs. Not to mention the fact that the ident is made for scheduling. This is apparent by the theme of the ident. Through the torch and the bullet, we can see the main aspect of the next couple of shows is about action. This allows the person watching to not only see what is on next but receive a little preview of it. The design has changed aswell. The screen is more crowded, the colors are dimmer and there is a lot more movement. This is probably because of the scheduling of the ident. It is put near a action movie and therefore the people interested will be into action, this way they will be more attracted to the ident because it bare's similarities to their actual life. This 2011 one is another example of scheduling. The design consists of a hanging boul bouls with snow dropping down on them and a present in the background. One of the boul bouls are the '5' sign which is its usual logo. The entire color scheme is red and white which is Christmas themed. This is to help schedule the programs that will be on because a lot of Christmas themed idents come on near Christmas. This ident will let them know that. Also this ensure's audience will like it because they will most likely be in the Christmas spirit and it might brighten their mood. One thing about this ident is that it has no information in it. This is probably because the channel, at this point, is quite recent and therefore rather than watching tv live, they will watch it online where the information is not very important. Finally, this is a more recent ident from 2015. This has an entirely different purpose to all of the above. Although it is also being used for brand identity, loyalty and scheduling, it is also using it as a marketing technique. This is because channel five had only just taken on big brother and so people were unaware to find it at channel five. Therefore, when making an ident they used this to give out information but also advertise Big Brother's move to channel 4. This is shown as it take the theme of Big Brother and turns it's logo into big brother's eye. This is in attempt to also sell themselves on the side. There is also quite a lot going on in the deign and the electric sparks a very bright. This is probably because it's from a young audience and therefore they want to keep them interested. One last thing that i noticed was that each of the idents, in this post, within this genre is getting a smaller generation than before. It begins with 23 seconds, moves on to 20 before making back to 16 in the last to.
