The Estates General
Louis XVI summoned the estates general because he wanted to raise taxes. He used the estates general because he wanted people to think he was taking their opinion into consideration.

The third estate is furious because the Estates General is being unfair to them and so they meet in another room and form the National Assembly.

Tennis Court Oath
The king locks the room in which the assembly was going to be, and so the third estate meet in a tennis court, and make an oath not to leave until a constitution was made.

Storming of the Bastille
The people in the National Assembly feared the king would act with violence and send the army to attack them, so they stormed the Bastille and grabbed all the guns and weapons they could get to defend themeselvs.

The National Assembly issued the declaration of the rights of man and the citizen, which was an event that questioned everything and marked a change, a revolution.

Women march to Versailles
There was a rumor in France that said that while most of the population was starving, the Queen was hoarding grain. So women marched to Versailles to make the Queen and King come to Paris, where they would be closer to the people.

The king and the queen attempt to escape France dressed as servants, but they are caught in the process.

Champ de Mars massacre
The Jacobins were in the Champ de Mars collecting signatures against Louis. Soldiers of the National Assembly came and attacked the Jacobins. Many people died as a result.

Austria and Prussia issued the Declaration of Pillnitz to bring the king back to power.

France declares war on Austria
Revolutionaries wanted war because they thought their ideas would spread through Europe, and to steal grain from other countries. The monarchy wanted it too because they thought the new regime would be easily defeated and this would pave their way back to the power.
