Brandon Austin transfers from Providence College to University of Oregon. "Austin opted to leave the program after being suspended for what was termed "not upholding … responsibilities as (a) student-athlete." Coach Dana Altman said he consulted with Providence coaches before accepting Austin as a transfer, and they alleviated any character concerns.

Federal 'clock' is ticking on UO response
Was the university taking too long to investigate the student's complaint? The school later indicates it knew what would and wouldn't be acceptable to the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights. "OCR reports a typical university investigation takes approximately 60 calendar days following the receipt of a complaint. The UO took action well within the typical timeframe for such investigations." The school took action against the players 52 days (April 30) after receiving the initial complaint (March 9).

Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner said there isn’t enough evidence to file charges and that the victim gave conflicting statements. But the DA also said that there is “no doubt the incidents occurred.”

UO's latest 'Dashboard' includes new APR data
The UO released more than 300 pages of documents and emails in response to public records requests after the case went public. Almost all were completely redacted; about a half-dozen were not, including an email April 15th with a link to the school’s updated NCAA Financial Dashboard. This data-tool, for internal use only, includes the most up to date APR average for the Ducks, and allows administrators and coaches to compare UO’s stats to other schools.

The "APR Bump" predictions may be money in the bank this time next year for coaches and the AD. Their contracts all include cash bonuses tied to high APR scores, in some cases more than what they'd get paid for their first NCAA tournament win. After last year's numbers came out in May, a KATU public records request turned up the pay outs given to Coach Altman ($20k) and his staff. Athletic Director Rob Mullens earned the most ($40k) for bringing up the school-wide average score.

Players suspended as students
The University of Oregon says three former basketball players have been suspended as students for a minimum of four years, and up to 10 years, as a result of rape allegations involving a freshman student. According to UO spokesperson Julie Brown, "... each young man had previously been given their full release and permission to contact any school."
