William Horner created the Zoetrope in 1834.The Zoetrope is a cylinder with slits in the sides so someone can see the images that are on the inside edge when spun.

Persistence of Vision is the theory that an image persists one twenty-fifth of a second on the retina.

Joseph Plateu

Joseph Plateau invented the Phenakitoscope in 1831. The Phenakitoscope was the predecessor of the zoetrope and therefore a simpler version of it. The Phenakitoscope is just a series of images on a disk that can be spun with a handle.

Eadward Muybridge/Thomas Edison

Eadward Muybridge and Thomas Edison were both involved in the making of the kinetoscope. The Kinetoscope is designed to view films by looking through a hole at the top of the device. Eadward Muybridge was also the inventor of the Zoopraxiscope

Emile Reynaud

Emile Reynaud is the inventor of the Praxinoscope. the successor to the zoetrope. invented in 1877, like the zoetrope it used a variety of pictures in a cylinder that would spin around. this was an improvement of its predecessors because instead of having slits, mirrors where used so the people viewing could see more clearly.

Auguste and Louis Lumière are proclaimed the first filmmakers in history and invented the cinematograph. The cinematograph is a film camera and a film projector/developer
