Durham Congregations in Action (DCIA), a group of 24 churches and faith communities, established Habitat for Humanity of Durham in October of 1985.
Durham Habitat purchases land in the Edgemont community to begin building affordable homes in June of 1986.
Durham Habitat completed it's first home in December of 1987.
Durham Habitat hires staff and moves away from being a volunteer only organization.

The 20th Durham Habitat home is completed by the end of 1992, and homebuyer family closes on the home in early 1993.
Durham Habitat begins it's 2ndyouth project-a build project with high school student volunteers. Students raised the money to build the house and participated in construction.
Durham Housing Authority gives Durham Habitat $126,000 to help pay for new Shirley Caesar Ct. neighborhood.
A groundbreaking is held for a new Durham Habitat neighborhood at the corner of Merrick and Umstead St.

100th Durham Habitat home is completed in early March of 2000. It is one of the last homes in a neighborhood near NC Central University.
Community of 17 energy-efficient Durham Habitat homes is nearing completion in 2001.
Blitz Build begins on N Hyde Park Ave.
A group of women gather to build another home in the Ellerbee community, the first of many all female builds.
The 150th Durham Habitat home is finished in October of 2004. The home is entered in the annual Parade of Homes.
Durham Habitat joins the Home Builders Associations of Durham and Orange County to build 7 homes in 7 days.

Durham Habitat Repairs Program is founded, helping lower income Durham families correct substandard housing conditions in their homes.
Cree pledges 3 1/2 years and $1.5 million to Durham Habitat to provide LED lights in all new homes.
