It was a text-based internet and lacked imagery. Learners were able to interact with each other in the same virtual rooms, similar to today's "Zoom". Users of the internet were passive learners and only the professionals could create content. This would be the case until the Web 2.0 emerges.

Websites, or social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Tumblr, Youtube are founded. People are now sharing the moments of their lives. Later on, with the advent of smartphones, they will share a lot more on the social media. Thanks to these sites, learning groups, videos and blogs are created and shared by people all around the world.
The first iPhone to have an application gallery hits the market, iPhone 3G. With the advent of AppStore, there is no need to go on to your computer and log in to your social media accounts. They are all 1 finger tap away from you.
The first Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tablet are introduced.
