(Cosin X.4.48) A collection of religious offices intended for the use of court ladies, at the request of King Charles. Although this went through three editions in 1627, and five more before his death, the work was attacked by puritans Henry Burton and William Prynne for being too reminiscent of Catholic doctrine in parts, for example in encouraging prayers for the dead; martyrs and saints days; and the power of priests to provide absolution. Cosin’s authorship not acknowledged until 1676.
