Developed with reference to other coronaviruses, such as SARS and MERS, WHO issued a tool for countries to check their ability to detect and respond to a novel coronavirus. This information is to help with identifying main gaps, assessing risks and planning for additional investigations, response and control actions. The tool was developed with other coronaviruses, such as SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV in mind and in consultation with member states. This information will help national authorities to i) identify main gaps ii) perform risk assessments and iii) plan for additional investigations, response and control actions.
The first two patients in Shenzhen city transferred into negative pressure room in Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen City due to matching lab test result, symptoms, and epidemiology and are being listed as suspected cases. The cases were not confirmed at the time, because requirement from the Chinese government at the time was that first case in each individual cities need to be submitted to provincial CDC, verified by national CDC, and then evaluated and confirmed by a specific diagnostic team in national CDC.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the 2019-nCoV outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, following a second meeting of the Emergency Committee convened under the International Health Regulations. Acknowledging that cases have been reported in five WHO regions in one month, the Committee noted that early detection, isolating and treating cases, contact tracing and social distancing measures – in line with the level of risk – can all work to interrupt virus spread.

The very 1st case was confirmed to have spread to Spain on 31 January 2020, when a German tourist tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in La Gomera, Canary Islands. On 9 February, the second case involved a British male tourist in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, who contracted the disease after coming into contact with someone in France who subsequently tested positive. Later on February, 24th, a 69-year-old medical doctor from Lombardy who had been vacationing in Tenerife since the 17th of February tested positive. As well, a25-year-old man returning from a holiday in Italy also tested positive in Asturias.

Novel coronavirus disease named COVID-19: Guidelines mandated that the name of the disease could not refer to a geographical location, an animal, an individual or group of people. It also needed to relate to the disease and be pronounceable. This choice will help guard against the use of other names that might be inaccurate or stigmatizing.
+20days after 1st case detected, the government announced a new decree imposing the quarantine of more than 50,000 people from 11 different municipalities in Northern Italy.

On 1 March, the Council of Ministers approved a decree to organise the containment of the outbreak. In the decree, the Italian national territory was divided into three areas. On 4 March, the Italian government imposed the shutdown of all schools and universities nationwide for two weeks as the country reached 100 deaths from the outbreak. The same day, the government ruled that all sporting events in Italy would be played behind closed doors until 3 April. In the night between 7 and 8 March, the government approved a decree to lock down Lombardy and 14 other provinces in Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Marche, involving more than 16 million people. This measure was described as the largest lockdown in the history of Europe, On 9 March, the government announced that all sporting events in Italy would be cancelled until at least 3 April. The same day, Prime Minister communicates that all measures previously applied only in the so-called "red zones" had been extended to the whole country, putting approximately 60 million people in lockdown.
Speaking at the COVID-19 media briefing, the Director-General emphasized that the virus is capable of community transmission but can be contained with the right measures.
Although previously, on February 13th a man of 69 years dead, this case was not discovered until March the 4th after the forensic analysis was carried out. So it was the next day (March, the 4th) when the second death was announced.
GHENOVA decides to create a Committee to deal with this situation. The very first meeting is attended by the General Manager, CEO, Operations Manager; ICT Manager and H&S Manager. There, Management transmits their commitment with the health of the employees and commands to put in place a deep analysis to find the best plan to implement solutions for a so dangerous risk for the company continuity of operations. H&S Manager is appointed to centralize all actions and monitor and report progress.
After more than 260 cases detected and three deaths, the Health Minister says that it is not yet the moment to enter in an alert phase. As well, the WHO, through the Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment, advocated this day for combating the epidemic "causing the least disruption in people's lives."
As the very first decision taken by the Committee is to deploy a set of prevention measures to mitigate the risk of contagion. On March the 5th an internal corporative mail is sent to all employees reporting such measures. Main measures are: - TRAVEL & VISITS RESTRICTIONS requiring previous authorization by the Company Managers - DESINFECTION measures (i.e. extra-cleaning services; hydroalcoholic gels on free disposal; etc.) - RESTRICTION OF PEOPLE CONCENTRATION by implementing shifts in the company canteen; promoting video-meetings; etc.) -HYGIENIC RECOMMENDATIONS
The very first measure to mitigate the impact among the personnel, is to send key persons from the ICT Department to do home-working, as they were considered the key group to organize transition to general home-working.

Speaking at the COVID-19 media briefing, the WHO Director-General said: "WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic. Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death. Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO’s assessment of the threat posed by this virus. It doesn’t change what WHO is doing, and it doesn’t change what countries should do. We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus. And we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled, at the same time."

In order to take urgent measures concerning people in risk of contagion, a communication is sent to ask such people for answering making possible their identification in a rapid manner. Since none official identification characteristics are provided by any institution, people belonging to some of following groups are considered to be in risk: • Those who suffer or live with people suffering from: - pathologies, ailments or cardiovascular or lung diseases (ie. asthmatics); - those transplanted from a vital organ; and - those who have overcome a serious illness. • Pregnant women or pregnant couples.

On March 14, when in Spain there were around 6,000 cases and 200 deaths, the Council of Ministers declared a state of alarm throughout the national territory with the aim of stopping the health emergency caused by the pandemic of illness from coronavirus initially established for a period of 15 calendar days. The main consequence of this constitutional mechanism is the limitation to the freedom of movement of citizens, who can only circulate on public roads to acquire food, medicine and basic necessities, to go to health centres, to the workplace or financial or insurance entities, to assist elderly, minor, dependent or especially vulnerable people, as well as for reasons of force majeure. Likewise, the declaration of the state of alarm supposed the suspension of the opening to the public of the premises and retail establishments, except those related to the sale of food, sanitary and hygienic products, press and stationery, technology, gas stations, tobacconists, dry cleaners and laundries, as long as they take precautions to avoid crowding. In this same area, the hotel and restaurant activities were suspended, but being able to continue with home deliveries
Especially difficult becomes the situation of those people who are working abroad their home countries. People working off-site at Clients offices in some country where Covid-19 is affecting and they may feel alone at some circumstance. Being especially conscious on this, Top Management sent a special communication to all employees but certainly addressed to these people: "I want you to know that our first priority is your safety and your health, followed by your tranquillity and that of your families" Situation differs from countries, but the following-up of such situation is continuous by the HR Department. Phoning every day to this people, supporting all necessary help to report news and, above all, trying to bring them back ASAP.
The Government announces the closure of the Spanish borders from 00:00 on March 16, only allowing the entry of Spanish citizens and those who argue due to force majeure or need.
In order to track this situation with transparency to the employees and focussing on keeping people confident on company's measures, a new communication is issued. There, the H&S Department summarizes all measures taken so far. Additionally, a set of preventive measures addressed to teleworkers are joined to the communication. Aimed to achieve the best H&S of people working at home.
With the aim to detect and analyse the conditions of people doing teleworking, a query is sent to the staff. This query follows the form issued by the Health Department of the Spanish Government. There, equipment (i.e. chairs; table; screen; etc.), environment (i.e. light, noise, space, etc.) and similar issues are asked to be reported.
The challenge is almost achieved!!! In just 2 weeks, more than 500 people are moved to do teleworking. Just 11 people working at Ferrol remain at the office since they are waiting for the internet connection at home to be installed by the IT companies. The huge work from ICT Department in short collaboration with PMO allows to achieve the desired goal in such a short period.

After the first preventive measures were put in place on March, the 5th, a reviewed complete protocol to face this situation at all Ghenova sites is published. Where it is covered: - preventive measures to consider; - how to act in case of possible, potencial or confirmed contagion, both by the personnel and by the company; - models of work organization; - description of the Committee. As well, a graphic board with a summary of the main preventive measures to be taken and some pieces of information related to Covid-19 issued by the Health Ministry and the Company Prevention Service are joined.
Everyone is at home, and we want to see them!! Everybody is at home and we want to play with their children!! A pair friendly initiatives are launched in order to get pictures and videos from people while working at home and to get drawings made by their children at home. We are separated now, but we are still a team. New methods are being implemented to track on projects or to communicate each other, but, above all, the morale of the team must be kept high!! And, obviously, we are concerned about the new situation where people has to share the time for working with the time for the family. So, what is better than mixing work and family at this new times??

Once teleworking plan is about to end and first period of convulsion and uncertainty is concluding, it's time to call people to do their best. To do their best for projects "each from his position, we must redouble our effort to give the best of ourselves. We have to carry out our work with the level of quality that is usual in us, and do it efficiently, profitably. That is why I ask you from here an effort to maintain productivity". As well, the message is addressed to transmit confidence on the company's route: "despite the situation, our sales team continues to work hard and we do not stop receiving requests, launching offers and closing new contracts". And finally, the communication launches a message linked to the continuous improvement provided by this opportunity: "From the Management we are living this situation with optimism and with a learning attitude, because we will surely come out of this situation stronger, more prepared".
