The Junior League of Omaha founded, becoming the 25th League in the Association of Junior League of America.

Community Chest Formed

JLO participated in formation of Community Chest, the United Way of the Midlands’ prototype.

Children's Theater transitioned to JLO

Formerly part of the Omaha Community Playhouse, Junior League members would put on a play with the group

Jumble Shop opens

The Nebraska Society of Colonial Dames turned their thrift store over to the JLO, which operated the store until 2008, when the store was rebranded as My Closet

Children's Memorial Hospital Shop opens

Opened Hospitality Shop at Children’s Memorial Hospital. JLO operated the shop until 1956.

Omaha Junior Theater opens

Now the Rose Theater, this organization puts on performances, workshops, and other theater activities for more than 5,000 area children each year.

Mrs. Harry Threlkeld volunteers at the Children's Memorial Hospital

JLO has long been supportive of the local Children's Hospital. Whether it's visiting the children or operating the gift shop, the hospital holds a special place in our hearts.

Provisionals learned about city government from civic leaders

JLO is committed to the education of its members. New members attended lectures and learn about the city and areas of improvement.

JLO celebrates 50 years

In 1969, a Golden Jubliee Ball was held to celebrate 50 years of service to the Omaha community.

Girls Club of Omaha founded

JLO assisted with the creation of the Girls Club of Omaha, an organization still in existence today to serve local girls and give them the opportunities they need to succeed

Distinguished Sustainer Award founded

This award recognizes a member who has gone above and beyond as an active member, a sustaining member, and as a civic volunteer.

First Charity Run benefiting Children's Crisis Center

JLO still holds runs and other fundraisers now to benefit the community.

Indent-a-Kid program started

This program fingerprinted more than 5,000 children from March 1983 through May 1983

Omnibus/Omaha initiative started

This program helped train volunteer tutors for Omaha area schools. The program ran for three years and placed tutors in 25 school districts.

JLO Family Olympics held

A special presentation was also given by Olympic gold medalist Jim Hartung, and the UNL men’s gymnastics team showed off their skills!

Completed the 2nd year of Project Homeless

This program designed to educate the community of the needs of Omaha’s homeless population.

Ready by Six initiative started

This project created a parent resource directory for children from birth through age 6 and helped to build community awareness and understanding of issues around the healthy development of young children.

1st Race for the Cure Omaha held

American Girl Fashion Show started

$27,500 was raised in the first year the show was held!

Bright Space created at Open Door Mission

JLO partnered with Open Door Mission and other community organizations to create “Bright Space,” a play area for the children living at Open Door Mission.

Received the Nebraska Points of Light award

The award is given quarterly to one organization in recognition of their volunteerism in the state of Nebraska.

Dance Without Limits formed

For eight weeks in the fall and spring, JLO members met up with girls in 4th through 6th grade to learn dances and build confidence.
