Start of English Renaissance
It was a cultural and artistic movement in England. This era is often referred to as the “Elizabethan Era” or the “Age of Shakespeare” after the most important monarch and most famous writer of the period. The additions to English vocabulary during this period were deliberate borrowings, and not the result of any invasion or influx of new nationalities.

The First English Dictionary
Robert Cawdrey published the dictionary "A Table Alphabeticall" with aproximately 3000 words, defining each one with a simple description. This was the first single-language English dictionary. This dictionary was an attempt to explain 'hard' words, those unfamiliar to the general public.

Shakespear
Shakespeare introduce about 600 new words into the English language. He also introduced expressions and phrases in common use today.

By the middle of the 17th century, ‘thou’ was disappearing from standard usage, but it was being kept alive in everyday life by members of the emerging Society of Friends, or Quakers. They disapproved of the way singular 'you' had come to be part of social etiquette and continued to use the ‘thou’ forms

Noah Webster's dictionary
Noah Webster published his American Dictionary of the English Language. This book contained seventy thousand words. It was based on the principle that word usage should evolve from the spoken language, the work was attacked for its “Americanism,” as well as for its inclusion of nonliterary words, especially technical terms in the arts and sciences.
