The Investment Timeline is a high-level view of upcoming investment opportunities across EPSRC and UKRI. ;xNLx;;xNLx;It is not a comprehensive view of all opportunities but is designed to provide early notice of both UKRI-led calls and EPSRC-led calls to help researchers with their grant submission planning. Strategic Equipment

EPSRC provides funding for equipment through multiple routes to enable researchers to access the equipment they require to deliver their research in the most efficient and effective way.

Standard Mode

Standard Grants are very flexible, with the scale of projects supported ranging from small value, short term grants to multi-million pound research programmes. A wide variety of activities are supported, including feasibility studies, instrument development, equipment to support a number of research projects, overseas travel grants, and long-term proposals to develop or maintain critical mass. High risk/high return research proposals, embracing new concepts or techniques, are particularly encouraged.

Applications for fellowships at all levels are now open. There is a new framework which removes closing dates and eligibility requirements based on years of experience, and establishes a person specification against which applicants will be judged.

Newton Fund

The Newton Fund aims to promote the economic development and social welfare of either the partner countries or, through working with the partner country, to address the wellbeing of communities. It will do so through strengthening partner country science and innovation capacity and unlocking further funding to support this work. It is part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). Please note, the Newton fund commenced in January 2014 which predates the start of this timeline.

Centres for Doctoral Training

This call is for applications to support Centres for Doctoral Training focussed on cohort-based doctoral training in areas where both breadth and depth of research training are required to address UK skills needs at the doctoral level. EPSRC expects to commit up to £492 million to support Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) across the Engineering and Physical Science landscape.

GCRF: Tackling global development challenges through mathematical sciences

This activity is comprised of two related calls, both of which are supported through EPSRC's Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) allocation. SPF Wave 1: Building Collaboration at the Physics of Life

UKRI will be making available up to £15 million, to include £13.2 million of resource funding and £1.8 million of capital funding for proposals to underpin interdisciplinary research at the interface of physics and the life sciences (both biological and biomedical).
