1939-09-01 00:00:00

Germany Invades Poland; Soviet Union invades Poland and the Baltics

This event was important for many reasons, first of all it was basically the start of WWII, even though it wasn't announced as the OFFICIAL start of the war. Also, this was when Germany started taking over land, which will give them more land to become more powerful. They attacked by land and air, which is important, because this shows that Germany has a military again after World War I.

Great Britain and France declare war - OFFICIAL start of World War II

This shows importance in many ways, such as this was the OFFICIAL start of WWII. Before they had announced war, the British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain had slowly been letting Germany take back their old territory, rebuilding their army and more. He did this, because all the countries were scared of war. But once Germany invaded Poland, France ad Great Britain had had enough and announced war.

1940-05-10 00:00:00

Germany invades France and Captures Paris

One of the reasons why this event was so important, is because it had been a dream for Germany to one day to invade France, they had been dreaming of this since WWI. Nad now Hitler had achieved that goal and even captured Paris. This was also when Hitler was known as "the Master of Europe". But probably the most important reason was because now they were right by the English Channel, which was made EXTREMELY easy to bomb Great Britain.

1940-07-10 00:00:00

Germany bombs London and the battle of Britain begins

This battle forever changed London. It also made Germany look more powerful. It had also been a goal for to Germany to "get" Great Britain, especially London and now Germany had kind of achieved that goal.

1941-03-11 00:00:00

Lend-Lease Act

This event brought the US into the war. The US gave weapons (ships, guns, tanks, airplanes, etc) to Great Britain. Because they gave this supplies, it was an advantage for the Allies. On the side, the US were still in the Great Depression, but joining in on the war caused them to slowly leave behind the Great Depression.

1941-06-22 00:00:00

Germany invades the Soviet Union; Operation Barbarossa

In this event, Germany broke their alliance with the Soviet Union. This caused the Soviets to retaliate by becoming allied to the west and become part of the Allies (They now fought against Germany, their former alliance). Because this happened, now Germany had to fight on two fronts,

1941-12-07 00:00:00

Japan Bombs Pearl Habor

This was a big event during World War II, because this caused the war to become more global, not just in Europe, but now there was a fight against Japan (in Asia) and the US (North America) too. The Japanese greatly hurt the US, by bombing and attacking the US Naval Base in Pearl Harbor. They completely destroyed the American battleship U.S.S.. One of the things that the US were deathly afraid of was that the Japanese might invade California. Then the US would lose land, control over their space and much more.

1941-12-08 00:00:00

United States declares war on Japan

Now the US were officially at war with Japan, and we were no longer isolated from the war.

1941-12-11 00:00:00

US declares war on Germany

This event took place only HOURS after Germany declared war on the US. This event shows that the US is OFFICIALLY at war with Germany and now the feeling is mutual between both of the countries that they are now at war with one another.

1941-12-11 00:12:00

Germany declares war on the US

This is a brief but important event. For one, now Germany was OFFICIALLY at war with us, and lastly, the US is the ONLY country that Germany DECLARED war on during the entire war. This was kind of weird, considering how many countries were at war against Germany.

1942-06-04 00:00:00

Battle of Midway - TURNING POINT IN THE WAR (on the PACIFIC FRONT, in the Pacific Ocean)

This event was a HUGE turning point in the Pacific. Especially a turning point with the US against Japan. The US won a battle against Japan in the Pacific, with the Japanese firing at us and striking us with their war planes. But then, the US responded with torpedoes and die-bombers attacking the Japanese fleet. When the US won, it caused the Japanese to retreat, which was very good.

1943-02-02 00:00:00

Soviets defeat Germany at the Battle of Stalingrad - TURNING POINT in Europe on THE EASTERN FRONT

This was a turning point on the Eastern Front, when the Soviet Union beat Germany in Stalingrad. This was not only a big advantage for the Allies and make Germany not look so powerful, but also it was a great victory for the Soviets, and especially Stalin. He had been named after this city and if he had lost it, he would have been infuriated.

1944-06-06 00:00:00

D-day: Allies at Normandy -TURNING POINT in Europe on THE WESTERN FRONT

This event was a turning point in Europe at the Western Front. This was a HUGE win for the Allies and it gave them a HUGE advantage. Plus, Germany's defenses pummeled in numbers.

1945-05-07 00:00:00

Germany Surrenders

Germany was defeated and out of the war! The war was over with Germany.

1945-08-06 00:00:00

The US drops Atomic Bombs on Japan (Hiroshima first, then Nagasaki)

The US didn't want to send people in to make the Japanese surrender, because A LOT of lives would be lost. Japan did have a chance to surrender, before the first bomb was dropped, but they didn't surrender, so the US dropped the first bomb over Hiroshima. Then, when Japan STILL didn't surrender, they dropped the second one over Nagasaki. Finally Japan surrendered.

VJ Day

WAR IS OVER! Japan surrenders and...... THE ALLIES WIN!
