Germeny invades Poland. Soviet Union Poland and the Baltics

Germany and the Soviet Union signed the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact. Which basically said that they wouldn't attack each other. Then Germany and the Soviet Union invaded Poland. Germany invaded from the west. While Soviet Union invaded from the east. By then Germany had taken over the Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, Rhineland, and Austria.

Great Britain and France declare war: Offical start of World War II

Great Britain ad Germany made an agreement, that Germany wouldn't attack Poland. When Germany broke that agreement it forced Great Britain into the war.

Germany invades France and captures Paris

In World War I Germany was not able to take over France, because the Ardennes Forest separated them from France. So they went through Belgium to get there. Which got Great Britain in to the war. This time they learned from their mistakes, they busted through the Ardennes Forest. Surrounded France's only defense line, and crushed them. Since Frances buffer zone was now gone, France fell fast.

Germany bombs London and the Battle of Britain begins

The blitz also known as the Battle of Britain, lasted 57 days and nights. In that time period over 60,000 civilians were killed, and almost 1.2 million houses were destroyed in London alone. The Royal Air force was growing weaker each day, because the Germany kept attacking their air force bases. Britain held their ground and Germany pulled back.

Lend-Lease Act

During and after the Battle of Britain, Great Britain was in desperate need of supplies. U.S.A's leader FDR wanted to give weapons and supplies to Great Britain, but there was a bill that said the U.S would not give war supplies. So FDR made the Lend-Lease Act. The U.S.A could send supplies to Great Britain, but they were still following the bill. They were "leasing" them to Great Britain, not giving them. The Lend-Lease Act was the first step of getting U.S.A involved in World War II.

Japan bombs Pearl Harbor

Japan saw the U.S.A as a potential threat, so they sent the U.S.A coded message saying they were going to attack them. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and killed over 2,000 people. Japan thought they did the honorable way of warning them before they attacked. Only to realize that the U.S.A had no idea that was going to happen, because they decoded the message to slowly.

The Battle of Midway was the huge turning point the pacific, up until that point the U.S.A was losing the war. In that battle Japan also lost a lot of aircraft carriers and ships. Which would give the U.S.A the upper hand against Japan.

The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the major turning points in western Europe. The Soviets wiped out the Germany 6th army. Which allowed the Soviet Union to push Germany back, out of the Soviet Union.

The allies invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Overlord. Was the biggest sea invasion of all time. If the allies couldn't defeat Germany at Normandy, there was no back up plan . So if D-day wasn't successful there would be a big chance that Germany would have won the war.

Harry S. Truman didn't wan't to lose more American lives, since Japan did not surrender. He was not however, concerned about Japanese lives. So he ordered for two bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man. To be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to force Japan into a surrender.

V-J day: Victory in Japan

It was 24 days since the U.S.A dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan. Japan, who doesn't wan't to lose anymore live decides to surrender. They sign a treaty with the U.S.A on the U.S.S Missouri, on September 2, 1945. The war officially ends for the U.S.A.
