Football in the old times

In the IX century British chronologies tell of a ball game and of a match in Cilder Castle that ended in the Englishmen beating the Scotts 3-2. At that time football was of course different from today’s football: there was no single set of rules, the games were initiated spontaneously and often ended in fights. It was so severe that king Edward the III tried to ban the game they called football because in his opinion it was useless and much more dangerous than archery.

New Rules

In the XIX century the situation changed drastically. At first you could play using your feet and hands. The key date is 1863,when the list of rules was approved. Then fans of football split. The biggest change was the exclusion of the use of hands. While some accepted the new rules others created Rugby.

The cup of England

The first tournament in the history of football was not a championship but the cup of England . The first game was in 1871-1872.

Team Logos

In comparison to their names the emblems of English football clubs had been changed. But the main element remained, for example the Canary bird logo of Norwich or the Rooster on the logo go Tottenham.

The oldest football league

1888-foundation of the oldest football league (English). In the first season two teams competed, and the competition had two runs. The club Priston North End became the champions.

A new page in English football

Since 1892 English football has opened a new page in it’s history. From now on the best English clubs play in the premier leagues. 20 teams play in it. This tournament is considered the most popular and profitable sport championship in the world .

Manchester United

The highest ranking club to this day is Manchester United. Their first title was acquired in 1908, and the last in 2013. Throughout their history, the team became the champion 20 times and won silver medals 15 times.
