Bold and ambitious plans for the development of the site of the former Mecca Bingo hall in the High Street were approved by Ashford Borough Council's Cabinet, with the scheme heralded as a major part of a wider town centre regeneration strategy.
Cabinet approved plans for the development and construction of a new multi-storey car park on Station Road in Ashford. Subject to planning, it is proposed that the new multi-storey car park will hold about 500 spaces.
Cabinet has endorsed the proposed Ashford Town Centre Framework, which brings together the planned and new activity to meet the aspirations of the local community and ensure our town centre is fit for the future.
Ashford Borough Council has approved the initial stages of a new Cycling and Walking Strategy for the borough to span the next ten years. After a draft document was approved at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday 14 March, the Strategy will now go out to public consultation. The council’s Cycling Strategy was first approved in 2010, but has now been revised and reviewed to incorporate walking into a joint initiative which supports benefits in health, transport and the economy.
