Mecca Bingo hall plans approved

Bold and ambitious plans for the development of the site of the former Mecca Bingo hall in the High Street were approved by Ashford Borough Council's Cabinet, with the scheme heralded as a major part of a wider town centre regeneration strategy.

New multi-storey car park proposed

Cabinet approved plans for the development and construction of a new multi-storey car park on Station Road in Ashford. Subject to planning, it is proposed that the new multi-storey car park will hold about 500 spaces.

New Cycling and Walking Strategy unveiled

Ashford Borough Council has approved the initial stages of a new Cycling and Walking Strategy for the borough to span the next ten years. After a draft document was approved at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday 14 March, the Strategy will now go out to public consultation. The council’s Cycling Strategy was first approved in 2010, but has now been revised and reviewed to incorporate walking into a joint initiative which supports benefits in health, transport and the economy.

The Lightning Seeds are coming to Ashford

Iconic Britpop band The Lightning Seeds have been announced as the headline act for this summer’s free Create Music Festival, in Ashford’s Victoria Park. Famous for a string of hits including Pure, Sense, Life of Riley, and Lucky You, The Lightning Seeds are now probably best known for their football anthem ‘Three Lions’ – which has become a No.1 hit single on three separate occasions, including during last year’s World Cup.

Church Road Open Space and Play Area

At last week's Cabinet it was agreed that a funding contribution received by Ashford Borough Council from Highways England could contribute to the design and delivery of the improvement project for the Church Road Play Area and Open Space in Sevington. The improvements will include the supply and installation of new play and leisure equipment, new safety surfacing and improvements to enable better accessibility.
