(rebuilt 1690-1710). The inn stands upon the site of an old court house mentioned in a charter (1373) of Edward 111. The Pie Poudre Court was set up on market day to settle local disputes. The court ceased to adjudicate in 1870, but the ritual of the opening continued for another hundred years until 1970.i Every year on the 30th September the court was declared open, but immediately adjourned. There is an old well inside. Like Kingsley Hall its frontage extends over the pavement and is carried on pillars.
