Fruitful discussions between researchers and industry

The Inria-Industry Forum on "Bioinformatics and digital tools for healthcare products", held on 11 February 2014 at ENS Lyon, attracted over 200 visitors, who came to find out about the research carried out by around twenty project teams. An exciting day of productive discussions for all involved.

Laying the foundation stone of the IHU LIRYC building

On 10 February Monique Thonnat, along with Mathieu Hazouard (Aquitaine regional councillor), Michel Delpuech (prefect of the Aquitaine region), Philippe Leconte (Inserm regional representative), Christophe Giraud (CNRS regional representative), Alain Juppé (president of the supervisory board of the Bordeaux CHU (university hospital)), Philippe Vigouroux (director of Bordeaux CHU), Thierry Francq (deputy general commissioner), Professor Michel Haissaguerre and Manuel Tunon de Lara (president of the University of Bordeaux), laid the foundation stone of the building which will be welcoming, in November 2014, the administrative staff, in December 2015 researchers and, in March 2015, the laboratories.

A spin-off of Inria, Mensia Technologies provides cutting-edge expertise in the emerging field of real-time brain monitoring through electro-encephalography (EEG). For the second year in a row, this Rennes-based company is being awarded a Prize for innovative start-ups by the French Research Ministry.

CITRIS, Inria and PRIME Sign Accord: Smart Cities Research and Open Innovation

Inria, CITRIS and PRIME strike a partnership to accelerate the development of ambitious research and experimentation initiatives on issues relating to urban centers. Mrs. Genevieve Fioraso, French Minister for Higher Education and Research, witnessed the signature of this Memorandum of Understanding. Researchers from Inria and CITRIS will expand their existing relationship and leverage PRIME’s network and programs on smart cities to lead this effort. The trio of experts will reach out to public and private organizations to expand the scope and implementation of their projects.

The Human and the Digital: Art and Science Dance with Poppy the Humanoid Robot

From Monday, 24 February to Wednesday, 5 March 2014, the Chapel of Saintonge Secondary School in Bordeaux hosted Êtres et Numérique (The Human and the Digital), an art and science residency that staged a dance between a humanoid robot and a woman. A repeat performance was given on Thursday, 13 March, at 5.45 p.m., to mark the opening of the school’s new platform.

A MathC2+ training course in Bordeaux: secondary school students at the heart of research

For the first time in the Bordeaux regional education authority area, the local education authority, Inria Bordeaux - Sud-Ouest, the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and the University of Bordeaux are organising a MathC2+ training course*. Intended for year 11 pupils, the course, entitledWhen mathematics and computing come together in digital sciencesis part of the MathC2+ government scheme, aimed at encouraging talented young scientists and promoting careers in the field of science.

With the launch of a joint laboratory, the Toccata research team, which specialises in formal specification and computer-assisted proofs, is increasing its collaboration with AdaCore, the specialist publisher of development software for critical systems.

Inria and the Raoul Follereau secondary school sign a partnership agreement

Inria and the Lycée Raoul Follereau (in the Dijon regional education authority) signed a partnership agreement on Thursday 20 March 2014 in the school's conference hall. The partnership's main objective is to increase interest from young people, particularly girls, in digital sciences through supported robotics activities within the establishment.
