Trumps Actions " Nixonian"

Several Senate Democrats called Trump’s action “Nixonian,” conjuring up the infamous “Saturday Night Massacre” in 1973, when President Richard Nixon fired Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox during the Watergate investigation. Most people see this as Trump trying to end this investigation by firing Comey.

CNN " Gave Clinton too many free passes"

CNN reporter Jake Tapper in the article “Source close to Comey says there were 2 reasons the FBI director was fired “concludes that President Trumps irritation with the FBI investigation with Russia was the cause for the termination of Comeys position. With the Presidents tweets we can see his stance on the whole thing, “FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!”. CNN continues to go on and say “Moreover, the letter the President wrote to Comey firing him includes zero references to the Clinton investigation and one big one about the Russia investigation.” They say here that when they terminated Comey, Trump hadn’t mentioned any of the work that he praised him for the work during the Clinton investigation.

Washington Examiner "Deserved to be fired"

The Washington Examiner’s author Eddie Scarry in his article, “Wall Street Journal: Comey 'deserved' to be fired” is stating that President Trump’s action is similar to what Nixon had done with his private prosecutor during the water gate incident. “Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was officially the one to first recommend Comey's termination on Tuesday, citing Comey's public statements and actions on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email controversy and alleged ties between Trump associates and Russia.” This being stated shows how they perceive it as Trump blaming the termination of Comeys position on his actions during the Clinton investigation rather than the investigation of Russian ties with the Trump administration.

NPR " Suspicious Timing of Termination"

On the more neutral side of things we see how NPR’s writer DOMENICO MONTANARO in “Suspicious Timing And Convenient Reasoning For Trump's Firing Of Comey” about the termination of Comey, stating “The White House says President Trump fired James Comey because of how he handled the Hillary Clinton email investigation.” Let that sink in for a moment. The president, who campaigned before crowds that chanted, "Lock her up," is telling the American people that he summarily fired the FBI director, by letter, because he went outside Department of Justice protocols in speaking out about the Clinton investigation months ago. They state a potential reason for the termination of FBI Director Comey as well as many others including, “The real reason may be that Comey got too ubiquitous, too visible, too big for Trump's liking. And no one can get too big in Trump's world.” Along with, “Comey just testified before Congress for the second time in two months. The first time, March 20, didn't go so well for Trump. That's when (1) Comey first publicly acknowledged an FBI investigation into Russia and Trump associates and (2) disputed Trump's tweeted allegation that President Barack Obama had wiretapped him. Comey said it didn't happen.” We see that they are yet to choose a side but are suspicious of some aspects of the current situation.

BBC " Comey fired: The shifting explanations"

With BBC news staying neutral in this ordeal we can see them state some reasons that President Trump wanted to get rid of Comey. An example would be the way that he had handled the Clinton investigation as stated, “"I cannot defend the Director's handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails, and I do not understand his refusal to accept the nearly universal judgment that he was mistaken," Mr. Rosenstein goes on saying .” Here we see that a motive might have been given by the Attorney General Deputy Rod J Rosenstein. Another observation made by BBC is that the Russian investigation might have been the cause of the termination of Comeys position as stated, “That the president "had grown enraged by the Russia investigation" and was "frustrated by his inability to control the mushrooming narrative around Russia". "He repeatedly asked aides why the Russia investigation wouldn't disappear and demanded they speak out for him," Politico reported. "He would sometimes scream at television clips about the probe, one adviser said." Here we see how the speculation of Trump firing Comey for the Russian investigation could actually be plausible.

FOX News-Seeking new candidates to fill position.

Fox News reports “Comey firing: Several candidates being interviewed for interim FBI director” which only speaks about the candidates that are supposed to be qualified for the spot and might become the new FBI Director, the don’t mention reasons for the removing of Comey what so ever. “Several candidates already are being interviewed in the search for an interim replacement for fired FBI Director James Comey, senior Justice Department officials said Wednesday.” They also mention that they don’t want anyone who is “Too politicized”, that they also need someone who “Has the trust of those at the Bureau,” They also speak about how he had lost credibility.

Wall Street Journal-Simply Wasn't doing a good job.

In the article “Trump Fires FBI Director James Comey: Live Coverage of the Fallout” Wall Street Journal reports that at the senate hearings Comey didn’t recognize that he had made mistakes with the Clinton investigation and this in fact “Annoyed” the DOJ. Also with Trump commenting on why he had fired him, “He simply wasn’t doing a good job” with no other comments made about firing Comey. They say that Trump had lost confidence in Comey and that he had planned to remove him from his position ever since he got elected. They say that the timing of the Firing of Comey may look suspicious but the fact is that Trump didn’t fire him over the investigation with Russia but how he handled the Clinton Investigation.
