Tree ring dating reports, building survey records and house histories are available on our website in the Library section.;xNLx;;xNLx;Dendro details;xNLx;Building dates for buildings can be deduced by measuring the tree rings of timbers and matching them against other local, regional, national and international chronologies. It is a highly technical analytical and statistical tool and it can give very dependable results. Even so, dates need to be used with care. Dates given are felling dates and although building timbers were generally used within a year or two of felling while still green, sometimes timber was stockpiled. Some timbers date precisely to a single season but not all samples are complete (from bark or sap wood to the heart of the tree). The dates given here are the earliest in what might be quite a long date range. Fuller details are given in the tree-ring dating reports in the library section of our web site. For some houses, later building phases have been tree-ring dated, too, giving a detailed picture of the development of the building. At least 50 tree rings are needed to obtain a date: many houses in our area used fast-grown timber, which unfortunately produce too little information for our purposes.;xNLx;;xNLx;
