THE SHOP-IN-SHOP BOUTIQUE

Petersen expands the fun, pleasure and satisfaction of confectionery and gift-giving with the creative shop-in-shop boutique, a deeply specialized concept for any retailer with unused or under-utilized space, such as candy, gift and card shops, gift-basket and flower stores, yogurt-, ice cream-, bagel-, specialty food and gourmet shops, resorts, hotels, cruise ships and other retail, entertainment and service venues.

THE UNPRECEDENTED FLEX-WALL ECONOMY

Our stackable and endlessly variable flex-walls are the most space- and SKU-efficient candy retail displays in the world. A footprint of only one square foot can accommodate 12 different products of bulk candies and even more variety of candy novelty items. Creative combinations of stacked bulk candy bins with shelves, pegboard and slat-walls provide endless merchandising options and efficiencies. Form follows function!

A WELCOME INNOVATION!

A major contribution to CANDICO’s eventual popularity and success originates with the innovative and highly sanitary “funnel and rake” dispensers that were invented and, despite persistent and costly prototype hurdles, were stubbornly developed and implemented by Petersen in all subsequent CANDICO stores. These exclusive and consumer-friendly self-service dispensers largely eliminate product pollution, vandalism and other abuses that are usually associated with less sanitary bulk dispensers. The funnel & rake design also prevents the unauthorized return of candy product into the dispensers.

SHINY INNOVATION

PickSweetique introduces a new line of merchandisers constructed from metal. Advantages of lightweight design provide more flexible and mobile efficiencies.

ADVANTAGE: KIOSKS & RETAIL MERCHANDISING UNITS

Our modular and stationary full-size kiosks and mobile Retail Merchandiser Units [RMUs] offer astounding functional and economic advantages over the high costs of rents, construction costs and operations of traditional in-line candy stores. Depending on the type of mall, a quality kiosk or RMU may cost only 20% of an in-line store. Rents may amount to only 30% to 50% of those for in-line stores. Subject to “location, location, location”, annual sales can equal those of in-line stores since kiosks are typically located in higher traffic aisles that generate more impulse purchases because a consumer does not have to make a conscious decision to enter a store.

DEDICATION & CREATIVITY PAY OFF!

The Petersen family, now including the active and creative management of daughter Vanessa, again acquires CANDICO at Bridgewater Commons and, within 3 years, increases annual sales at that location by some 83% from $290K to $ 530K. At that point the annual owner operated pre-tax net income is approx. $ 160K, i.e.: an exceptionally strong 30% of net sales.

MODULAR KIOSKS SUCCEED IN-LINE STORES

The incessant increase of rents, construction costs and operations of in-line stores in quality shopping centers forces the more economical and practical option of modular self-service kiosks which can display as many different products as an in-line store. The Petersens open their innovative walk-around kiosk on 320 sq. ft. at Rockaway Townsquare, NJ, the birthplace of CANDICO a short 18 years ago. The design is based on compact modules with a footprint of 40” width and 30” depth which can be installed in any desirable size and configuration of space.

CANDICO FRANCHISE GOLD?

Petersen continues to be pursued and literally overwhelmed by investors and speculators with proposals and financial “incentives” to franchise the CANDICO concept. His only and never wavering refusal is best demonstrated by Edvard Munch’s iconic “The Scream”. All attempts by third parties to franchise Candico were flatly rejected in order to pursue the key elements of Petersen’s mission: “Independence, Quality, Service And Innovation Above All!”
