Community Hall Built where AG Foods currently stands. Housed 2 cloak rooms, kitchen and cast iron stove
New Upper valley Community Hall (with outdoor skating rink) was built on John Ronayne Farm (built by the Boys Club). This building existed until the 1970's when it collapsed under snow.
The Pemberton Legion was built by volunteers and local funds
1970: Pemberton Secondary Students began renos on the inside of the Pemberton Community Hall. Rcv'd lottery grant of $13,000
Community Hall (where AG Foods currently stands ) burns down. Building had no insurance.
VoP offers Lot 15 for rebuild of community centre, as AG site deemed to be unsuitable for new community centre.
Lot 12 purchased for $45,000. Property was 4 acres and was to be used for parking.
Referendum to approve borrowing $500,000 for capital costs for rec facility. Referendum passed.
PACA sold the lands they held downtown for $67,000 PACA used the proceeds to purchase Lot 12 adjacent to the Health Care Centre (crown grant) lands.
Design competition was held. Concept for new community hall agreed upon between VoP/SLRD/PACA. Volunteers donated and hauled fill to site, for site preparation. Construction anticipated to start in 1993
Through consultation, it was indentified that community support for arena was high. Focused shifted from community hall to arena (with community space). Work began to design a 'no-frills' arena. Cost was estimated to be $1.5 Million
Referendum to borrow $1 Million took place. Referendum was defeated with a 58% NO vote. PACA continued to seek community input on facility
New Concept called the Millenium Project (included NHL Ice Arena and Community Centre) presented to local government. Slated to be completed by December 1999. Cost estimated to be $2.6 Million. Local Gov't asked for independant review of Concept/Plan. Project lost momentum due to lack of support from local government
Pemberton Secondary School leased to Pemberton Recreation commission as temporary community centre
1990 referedum for $500,000 still active. Suggested to build simplified community hall, estimated cost $900,000. SLRD did not support. Bylaw expired in March 1996.
SLRD begins to lease Old Highschool property from School Board for $1/year
Contract overseen by SLRD's Joint Services Committee.

RFP issued for first 'new' community centre design.
SLRD applied for & granted funds for New Community Centre

Referendum (with General Election) for loan to build Community Centre. This was passed.
