Mao Tse Tung was born on December 26, 1893 in Shaoshan, Hunan Province, China.
Mao joined the Republican army but then quickly changed his mind to go back to school to finish his studies.
In 1918, Mao graduated from the Hunan First Normal School and moved to Bejing.
Mao became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Mao joined the GMD or Nationalist Party where he became a firm believer in Leninist ideas.
After the death of president Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek came to power.
During this time, Mao led peasants against Kuomintang, but was defeated in the process.
In a journey called the "Long March", 100,000 Communists marched across the Chinese mountains in order to escape the Kuomintang.
It was this year that Mao Tse Tung became one of the top leaders in the Chinese Communist Party.
Mao helped to fight off the Japanese army after they had attacked China and Chiang Kai-shek.
Mao became the head chairman of the Communist Central Committee.
The Chinese Communist Party with Mao leading and the GMD with Chiang leading, broke out in a war.
Mao announced the beginning of the People's Republic of China in Tiananmen Square.
Mao gave the 100 Flowers Speech.
Mao announced the plan of the Great Leap Forward.
In 1962, Mao lost control of the country.
In this year, Mao decided to set the Cultural Revolution into motion.
Mao Tse Tung invited Richard Nixon, president of the United States, to visit China.
Mao Tse Tung died at the age of 81 due to complications with Parkinson's disease.
