Kidnapping
Sacagawea was kidnapped by the Hidatsa when she was 10. Then, she was bought by Toussaint Charbonneau in Missouri.

Lewis and Clark
When Lewis and Clark decided to go on an expedition to explore new land (Louisiana), they needed an interpreter. She also had the opportunity to represent her tribe. She did have Jean Baptiste with her during the expedition, but when they ran into an Indian tribe, they thought that white men were good when they saw Sacagawea and her baby.

Starts the expedition by going upstream the Missouri River. Then, they run into Sioux.

Only Woman
On the Lewis and Clark expedition, there were only men. Sacagawea was the only woman and was one of the most important people there.

Traveling
The boat that she was traveling on was hit by high winds. During that time, she recovered many important papers. She was also the only woman in the permanent party to the Pacific Ocean and back. When they reached the place where the Columbia river met the Pacific, they camped for the winter of 1805- 1806.

When winter came about, they settled for winter and built a fort called Fort Clatsop.

Separation
Lewis and Clark separated into parties to travel. Sacagawea was with Clark. On July 15, 1806, Clark's party reaches Yellowstone Park. On July 26, 1806, Lewis' party has a fight with the Blackfeet Indians.
