First documented history of koi existence

Written history of the koi was documented initially in 265 A.D. during the Western Chin Dynasty. These fish where described as Red, White, Black and Blue.

Koi begin being subjects in Art and carvings in Chinese society

Confucius, son of an Emperor, was presented a koi as a gift. These fish were used as the main subject in Chinese artwork and carvings and kept by rulers in captivity for their viewing pleasure.

Further mutations where created and allowed to stay within the gene pool. This increased further diversity throughout the species

Japanese interest increase in koi under Emperor Hirohito

Emperor Hirohito approves putting koi into the emperial moat around the palace. This symbolized their love for koi within the country.
