Fugitive Slave Law

On September 18, 1850, Congress passed the Fugitive Slave law. This law required Northerners to help catch runaway slaves and return them to the South.

1st Battle of Bull Run

The First Battle of Bull Run was the first major land battle of the Civil War. This Confederate victory is also where General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson earned his nickname because of how he and his troops held their ground.

1865-04-14 00:00:00

Abraham Lincoln Assassinated

On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford Theatre while watching a play called "Our American Cousin."
