On May 18, 1673, Jolliet and Father Marquette and five other men in large canoes sailed down the Mississippi River from St. Ignace.

Jolliet travelled first from Lake Michigan to Green Bay and then to Fox River, WI. After, he sailed from the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi River.

He faced challenges such as the space in the canoes. Also, the pace that they were going was fairly slow.

Jolliet was looking for beaver pelts and other goods/items that the french would buy. He also wanted to explore the Mississippi. New France or Canada as we know it today, sponsored Jolliet-Marquette voyage. On his journey, Jolliet found Natives, furs, and new land.
