Burma: A History of Unrest
When Burma became independent, many tribespeople and religious groups did not want to join Burma and wanted to remain independent states. There have been many rebellions and riots due to both this, economic struggle, and a constant turnover in political control. Because of this, many have been forced to flee from their homes, traveling as refugees to other countries for decades.

First unified Myanmar state founded
According to the Burmese chronicles, the Pagan Kingdom conquered the Thaton Kingdom, making it the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later make up modern-day Burma/Myanmar. Buddhism is adopted.

Riots begin, Martial law enacted
As the currency devaluates, many people are launched into poverty. Anti government riots begin. Thousands are killed in the riots and the State Law and Order Restoration Council is formed. The restoration council declares martial law and arrests thousands.
