Hidden Networks - How the Dissemination of Anonymous Information Using the Deep Web Has Changed Our Digital Culture
Key Events & Developments of Online Anonymity. A timeline, beginning in 2000, illustrating the evolution of anonymous digital culture. From software which enabled anonymity to outlining some of the ways in which it was used and finally, examining the implications of its use.
I have set out a series of events within this timeline which seek to highlight why there is not only a desire but a need for anonymity online. The so-called DarkWeb is not reserved for the widely-reported nefarious actions of drug dealers and paedophiles, but also for those who simply seek to protect their privacy without persecution or suspicion. In addition, I have also included links to both published literature and media events which place the developments of online privacy in a wider context.
