History Time Line

Since the German and Italian Unification there were many conflicts, because Germany became very powerful and a threatened for many countries. Many alliances were signed because of that. War started and The Treaty of Versailles was signed to achive peace.

The German State of Prussia became strong and prosperous under his leadership.

German Unification

Germany was growing too fast and became a menace to many countries. She had many rivals: Britain (they were competing for the navy and for the industry) , Russia and France (for the possibility of attack). Since Otto Bismark unified Germany, she started growing and a lot of alliances were formed because of the fear that Germany produced.

Italian Unification

It was the political and social movement that grouped different states of the Italian peninsula into the single state of Italy in the 19th century. Anger over foreign domination led Italian nationalists to call for unity and independence, they were sick and tired to be controlled by a bigger country.

Franco-Prussian War

Prussia captured the French Emperor Napoleon III and annexed the French provinces of Alsase-Lorraine.

Otto von Bismark

He became the Prime Minister of Prussia. Bismark united many of the smaller northern German states through a series of wars and created alliances with many of the southern German states.

Under Wilhelm II, Germany grew to become the strongest military and industrial power in Europe.

First Moroccan Crisis

The First Moroccan Crisis, also known as the Tangier Crisis, concerned the colonial status of Morocco and was really provoked by the signing of a friendship agreement between France and Britain known as the Triple Entente. France tried to take control of Morocco. Germany protested but lost arguments as France. Britain and France got together and became Germany's rival, and humiliated the Kaiser in the International Conference.

Second Moroccan Crisis

Another dispute between Germany and France over Morocco started but this time France took control over Morocco. Britain and France took over and humiliate the Kaiser in the International conference. Some land was given to Germany as compensation.

The Balkan Crisis

Austria had taken control Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia didn´t like it. However, she could do anything about it because Austria had Gemrany´s support. Austria saw Serbia as a threaten so she was looking for a good excuse to crush on her. Finally, when the Archduke and his wife died in Savarjevo, Austria blamed Serbia, although they weren´t sure if it was their fault.

Assassination of the Archduke

When a serbian killed the archduke, Austria- Hungary declared war to Serbia. This was the perfect escuse to crash her. The archduke's death was the straw that broke the camel's back.

World War I

After the assassination at Saravejo Austria declared war to Serbia, so their allies were included in the war. It lasted four years and in 1918 Russia left the war because there was an internal revolution. USA replaced her. The victory was for "The triple entente".

The Fourteen Points

The Fourteen Points were written by Wilson, the president of USA. He offered them to Germany in the end of the WW1 as the basis of the peace treaty. Many people in France and Britain thought these ideas were impractical. Wilson's favourite point was the fourteenth: Leage of Nations to be set up.

The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was a peace treaty signed at Brest-Litovsk between Russia and the Central Powers marking Russia's exit from World War I, because of an internal revolution.
