Colonizing in North America, and the Founding of the 13 colonies

When the first English colony it was the beginning to much much more. More than anyone realized. 13 more colonies were established. England Established the colonies to gain land and trade in America. Most of the people who came over to colonize though, came to find religious freedom, so that they could worship freely. Over time these colonies were founded and eventually fought for their own freedom, and established the United States of America, where we live today. The 13 colonies were the beginning of the unites state of America as we know it today.

Virgina Colony Established

The Virgina Colony was the first English Colony established in North America. It was based in Richmond, James town and Williams burg, Virginia. John Smith was the founder of the Virginia colony. Intresting Fact, The Virgina Colony consisted of all men and boys. This colony was instituted by King James to search for and find good and other Valuable materials in America.

Myflower

In August 1620 the Mayflower embarked on its Journey from Plymouth England to America. They arrived 2 months later in Cape Cod, not where they meant to be. There they settled there are created the Plymouth Colony.

The first Thanksgiving

After The first pilgrims arrived, many died because of the harsh winter. The Native's blessed them immensely by helping them learn to hunt and survive in their new home.

New York

By 1626 Dutch settlers began arriving in New York,later in 1664 it was captured by the Duke of York and became an English Settlement.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts became an american colony in 1630, founded by John Winthrop, and other puritans seeking religious freedom. This Colony was established because of the Mayflower compact, letting Plymouth and Maine become a colony.

Maryland

Maryland was established as a Colony in 1634. Maryland was established mainly for religious freedom for Catholics and Protestants Interesting fact : Religous tension started to happens when puritans moved to Maryland. A tolerant act had to be passed, for all who believed in Christ so that the fighting would end.

Rhode Island and Connecticut

In 1636 Rhode Island and Connecticut colonies were both founded. Both were Puritan colonies and accepted no other religion.

New Hampshire and Delaware

In 1638 New Hampshire and Delaware were the newest colonies in the America. New Hampshire had Puritans accepted no other religion. Delaware was one of the first colonies to have such diverse religions. Delaware had many Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jews and others.

North Carolina

In 1653 the North Carolina Colony was founded by Virginia Colonist. North Carolina had no dominant religion which gave freedom for Anglicans and Baptist to worship. They Grew Tobacco, corn and cotton as their way to trade and survive, as did many of the other colonies.

South Carolina

The South Carolina Colony was founded under the direction of Kind Charles the ll. He sent English Nobles to found the colony. There was freedom of religion here.

New Jersey

The New Jersey Colony was founded by Lord Berkley and Sir George Carteret. They had wonderful farmland and live stock to support them for their. lively hood. One of their biggest exports was indigo (dye)

Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Colony was founded by William Penn. It was founded for religious freedom of Quakers Interesting Fact : Pennsylvania was nicknamed the bread basket because of how many crops it grew, especially wheat.

Georgia

Georgia was the last colony to be founded and it was founded much later than all the rest. Georgia was founded in 1732 by James Oglethorpe. There was religious freedom and it was a refuge for persecuted protestants Interesting Fact: Georgia was named after King George the 11 because he sent the charter to found the colony.

On July 4, 1776 The United Sates of America officially become a country. Previous to July 4th 1776 the colonies joined together against Great Britain.Which began the revolutionary war and the colonies fought for their freedom as a country, which they won and became The United Sates of America on July 4 1776.
