Birth
On April 3, 1934, Jane Goodall was born to Mortimer-Herbert Morris Goodall and Margaret Myfanwe Joseph in London, England. A lifelike chimpanzee toy she got as a child started her early fondness for chimpanzees.

Early work
Invited by a friend, Goodall was brought to a farm to serve as a secretary to her in the Kenyan highlands.

Not much later, Louis Leakey, a Kenyan archaeologist and palaeontologist, hired Goodall as his own secretary. He kept his idea as hiring her as a chimp researcher secret.

At Gombe, Goodall observed the chimps and made an important discovery. She found out that chimps also made tools using resources and materials from nature. Before that, people thought that only humans made tools and built things.
