Olive Odyssey Timeline
One year quest by Pat O'Hara and Rich Blatchly to learn as much as we can about olives, olive oil, and olive culture.
We will harvest olives this fall in the northern hemisphere in Turkey, Greece, Italy and Spain and follow this by a southern hemisphere spring harvest in South Africa. Come along with us as we learn all we can about the immortal olive!

Harvest Preparations - Yeni Foça
In groves surrounding Yeni Foça, we harvested for çekişte olives for curing. Beginning with a stone crush, we soaked olives for 10 days in water (changed daily) then preserved in a saturated salt solution.

Off the Grid - Zeytin 2014
Twenty participants explored questions of the science, cultural history, economics, and systems thinking of olive oil production. Organoleptic activities, oral stories collected, olives harvested, and friendships made.

Harvesting Olives - Şirince, Turkey
While still a bit early, we were shown the techniques and were taught much about olive picking and pressing by Doctor of Agriculture Cahit Tunç. We harvested two gemlık olive trees to produce 50 kilo olives for 12 kilo oil.
