For the first time in RSS history, all certified educators receive a Macbook Air for take home use.

Massive Infrastructure Upgrade Performed

During the months of June, July and August massive infrastructure upgrades were performed. Technicans worked around the clock to upgrade network servers in all 35 schools, as well as, add over 1400 Access Points in schools.

Problem Based Learning Institute

RSS holds it's first ever, PBL Institute for 100 selected educators. During this summer institute, educators learned the process of PBL and created lessons to be used throughout the district.

Rowan County Early College Students Receives Laptops

In historic fashion, RCEC students become the first students in Rowan County to receive laptops in the 1:1 deployment.

RSS Back to School Conference

RSS hosts a professional development conference for all 2,000 educators. ISTE participants present topics on technology integration, problem based learning and literacy. Discovery Ed become corporate sponsor for the event.

High Schools Hold Parent/Student Events

Individual high schools hold student/parent events to learn about 1:1 program. Parents attend informational sessions, sign Responsible Use Policy, and make payment.

High School Laptop Deployment

For three weeks, all 8 high schools deployed Macbook Airs to over 6,000 high school students. The organizational process received notoriety from Apple and other vendors.

In an effort to provide professional development to teachers in a collaborative, personalized manner, Twitter chats are held every other Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Each chat is tailored to the needs of educators and feature guest moderators.

Dr. Lynn Moody hosts over one hundred local businesses and churches to discuss homework centers and wifi hotspots throughout the community. Community members are challenged to create local hotspots within their community.
