Sina Weibo is the most popular microblog website in China. It looks like a hybrid of Facebook and Twitter but has more unique features. It combines almost all available functions on Twitter and the networking features of Facebook. It consumes 90% market shares of China’s microblogging services, with more than 140 million users in less than 2 years, while Twitter gained 200 million users in less than 5 years. Launched in 2009, Weibo has 600 millions registered users in 2013 and 156 million monthly active users till August, 2014.
