From May to late August a team of West Virginia natives will be living in McDowell County. We will be working with the community to tell the stories they believe are important and help bring ideas for future improvement to life. The stories, maps and data we collect will be incorporated on an interactive website launching in May 2013.
Applying for grants, designing the wireframes and making contacts in and outside the community
We will start an IndieGoGo or Kickstarter account and hold a 30-day campaign to raise $20,000.
Pack our bags, our equipment and head to the coalfields of West Virginia!
Begin interviewing residents and gaining an understanding of the stories they feel need to be told.
Eric Lovell will begin working with youth to map the main streets of Welch, War, Iaeger, Kimble (among other towns).
The community will gather to watch screenings (footage shot by residents and the production team) and take part in storytelling workshops. Food and refreshments will be provided!

We will begin to edit the short documentary portraits and continue to program the interactive website,
Test the website and make any final changes!
The website will be live and users will have an opportunity to explore the maps, data visualizations, documentary portraits and upload their own content.
Travel around rural towns across the country and gather the community at libraries and schools to explore and interact with the website.
