Make a final list of each school that interests you and you plan to apply to. Keep a list of deadlines and requirements for each school.
Early decision and early action applications are due between October 1 and November 1.
Look out for early decision replies which usually arrive during December.
Make sure that your test scores are being sent to the right schools.
Do the schools you applied to require an admissions interview?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens January 1 for the next school year.
Contact the admissions office for the college(s) to which you have applied, and make sure you have submitted all necessary paper work.
Ask the Financial Aid or Scholarship offices at your college about the institutional scholarship application.
Talk to your parents about fiing taxes early. You will need your tax information and your parents for the FAFSA.
Keep an eye out for financial aid workshops you and your parents can attend.
Check with your school to see if they require a financial aid application other than the FAFSA. Some schools require The CSS/Financial Aid Profile. You should ask your high school counselor or a financial aid counselor for help completing this.
Have your official transcripts sent to the schools to which you have applied to.
If you completed the Free Applicatin for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR).
The financial aid office at the college you applied will likely communicate with you via email (college email not personal). If you do not have access to your college email call the Financial Aid Office to see if they are requesting additional documents from you.
You will likely receive acceptance letters from your colleges by April 15.
Compare the colleges you were accepted to with the financial aid packages your were offered.
Did you register to take your AP exams? Be sure to talk with your AP teacher or high school counselor to register for your AP exam.
Make a decision by May 1 on which college you are attending and notify the college- it may have a deadline.
Accept your financial aid awards through your student portal at your college.
You should have received a packet or emails from your college with your next steps outlined.
Your college will offer several orientation options for new students. During orientation you will register for courses, learn about financial aid, and other campus resources.
Make sure to have your high school counselor send your official final high school transcripts to the college you plan to attend in the fall.
