Stubenrauch & Associates prepared Facilities Study Update. Recommendations: ~ Consider Hampden use (expenses & fragmented 3rd & 4th grades) ~ Fuller Street at capacity. Consider renovation. ~ Convert Dickason classroom as computer lab. ~ Remodel Dickason shop area. ~ Improve high school science lab equipment, energy conservation, building upkeep. ~ Flooring and ceiling replacement at all buildings. ~ Needed maintenance expenditures (not including asbestos removal) for all buildings. Includes re-lighting projects, window replacements. ~ Recommend adoption of formal long range plan. ~ All day Kindergarten program would impact capacities. ~ Dickason needs expanded IMC.
Citizens working with consultant Roland Rockwell. Prepared in-depth survey of each building and made recommendation to Board.
~ Grade alignments recommended based on PreK-5, 6-8, 9-12. ~ Close Hampden School. ~ Discontinue Fuller Street Facilitiy. ~ Dickason would be 6-8 alignment with updates to building. ~ Continue CHS 9-12 with updates to building. ~ New PreK-5 building. ~ Increase maintenance budget.

Recommendations: ~ PreK-K at Fuller Street ~ Grades 1-5 at new building ~ Grades 6-8 at Dickason ~ Grades 9-12 at High School ~ New building on 20 acre site ~ Repair Fuller & Dickason Schools for long term use ~ Build required additional space ~ Replace windows, update plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems, electrical systems, bathroom facilities for handicapped persons.
Special informational meeting held to approve purchase of site located on north side of Highway K - within city limits.
Elementary School project overview prepared. (K-5 elementary wing addition planned.)
Volunteer Citizen Group created. Dr, Don Hafeman worked with group to create Long-Range Planning document for Columbus School District Facilities.
Recommendations from Citizen Group: ~ Re-align to PreK-6 elementary, 7-8 middle, 9-12 high ~ close Hampden School ~ Locate PreK-1 at Fuller and add on ~ Located Grades 2-6 at Dickason. ~ Add on to High School, move 7 & 8 there ~ Pursue merger with Fall River ~ Make Fuller/Dickason site larger and safer for students and traffic.
Fuller Street School renovated. Middle School safety repairs made. High School science rooms remodeled. ($575,000 borrowing resolution.)
Portable classrooms were rented and added on to the Dickason School.
Referendum held to borrow $900,000 for classroom wing onto Dickason School (in addition to $575,000 for summer remodeling work.)
After three (3) bond referendums, Board borrowed $975,000 for remodeling & addition to Middle School and completion of bus safety lane and parking lot.

Long Range plan updated. May consist of a new 6-8 building or additional space to existing buildings. ~ On-going upkeep of facilities.
Strategic Planning Committee consisting of 34 community members was formed. Task was to identify fundamental beliefs of the district and strengths and weaknesses. The committee developed mission statement and four long-range strategic goals. Second phase included development of specific action plan for goals and creation of action teams consisting of 10-15 people each. Third phase implementation of approved action plans.
Stubenrauch Associates completed school facility assessment. Detailed technical assessment of physical conditions of Hampde, Dickason, Fuller Street, and High School.
Option 1: Close Hampden School. PreK-K at Fuller, Dickason 1-5, New Facility 6-8, High School 9-12. Relocate Kindergarten to Fuller & remodel Fuller. Option 2: close Hampden School. K-2 at Fuller. No tax hike referendum held. (Special election.) Addition at Fuller Street, bus lane between schools, new playground equipment, ADA compliance.)
