100 billion cap removed

Dogecoin was meant to be capped at 100 billion coins, but the code does not actually implement this. It will grow beyond 100 billion coins because the block reward stays at 10,000 indefinitely. The developers have decided to leave the code as is. The technical term for this is ”dogeflation.” So what does this mean? Reddit user dogedoughdoe had this to say. “There wont be a cap on Dogecoin, like cash, more and more will be made. People will think its the end of the world but its probably the best in terms of keeping doge fun and inviting for newbies. If it is deflationary and the coins are capped, eventually we’ll all become old greedy shibes. Actually.. we wont even be shibes anymore, we shall return to human form. :-\”

v1.5 of Dogecoin officially released – make sure you update!

We’re happy to announce the v1.5 release of Dogecoin. This major release moves Dogecoin up to match the latest Litecoin code base and includes several other tweaks to improve sync times dramatically. We recommend all users update to v1.5 immediately. To update, simply overwrite your existing Dogecoin install. As always, please make regular backups of your wallet.dat file. Downloads Windows Mac OS X Source on Github Please note that due to a change in the database engine being used, a reindex will be required initially off your previously downloaded blockchain data – this should be quick however, and a full blockchain resync should not be needed. Make sure to backup your data directory before updating If you experience issues getting the client to sync: please close the client, delete all files from your data directory (except wallet.dat), and try opening the client again. For any other issues encountered, please report them on Github. Changelog: Updated code base to Litecoin 0.8.6.2 (inherits all Litecoin updates since 0.6.*). Highlights include: New database engine for block storage resulting in faster index/sync times Implements txindex, reindex and walletnotify Coin control options for advanced users Overall increased stability A range of security fixes Graphical tweaks, including splash screen New official DNS seed added (seed.dogecoin.com) for improved sync times Updated PROTOCOL_VERSION for better node detection New alert keys to allow for network-wide alert notification in future Linux binaries will be distributed shortly, stay tuned Note: If you’re seeing unconfirmed transactions or a low (potentially zero) balance, don’t panic! Wait for the reindexing to complete and everything will reappear, it just needs to reach the block where you received your previous DOGE Note II: If you’re receiving an error related to “-server”, please delete the dogecoin.conf file from your data directory and restart the application. If for some reason you need server=1 enabled to use JSON-RPC, then set a very secure user/pass combo and restart the application. This is for your security. Note III:* Windows connectivity issues fixed, we rebuilt using Boost 1.55 instead of Boost 1.54. Redownload and overwrite your existing 1.5 install from here.

Dogecoin Market Cap reaches an all time high

Dogecoin, the meme-based cryptocurrency, proceeds its relentless ascent “to the moon” turning into the third most important cryptocurrency on the planet after a Chinese trade started exchanging the coins for yuan. While there doesn’t appear to be any single explanation behind the spike, one of the primary drivers is that Chinese trade Bter.com has added dogecoin to its rundown of monetary standards that can now be exchanged specifically for Chinese yuan. This accompanies the most recent month’s announcement by Canadian-based trade Vault of Satoshi that it will exchanging dogecoin for US and Canadian dollars. This opens up the cryptocurrency to individuals not interested in mining it, the more exchanges that allow dogecoin in exchange for fiat, the more dogecion will remove itself from reliance on bitcoin. The worth of a solitary dogecoin ($ 0.0019) is little contrasted with the quality of a bitcoin ($650) yet the originators never proposed it to be seen as a financing chance: “I think we need to secure its place as the web cash – ideal for micro-transactions and tipping individuals you think are great,” – Palmer
