TRADITION, DIVERSITY AND ACCEPTANCE,COMENIUS PROJECT

This two year Comenius Lifelong Learning Programme is funded by the European Union. The project's title is 'Tradition, Diversity and Acceptance'. Its objectives are to bring together about 150 students from various backgrounds. The participating countries are Cyprus, Finland, Italy, Poland, Romania and, Spain. The students’ ages are 12-19.

The aim of this project is to help encourage cross-cultural cooperation and appreciation of the diversities within Europe, to explore ways to confront discrimination and to highlight a European dimension. Through the study and comparison of lifestyles and values, the students will uncover the commonalties which traverse all European cultures. The students will compare and contrast these cultures and through multicultural team building and team work they will reach a spirit of cross-cultural cooperation, compromise, awareness and appreciation of the diversities within Europe. Furthermore, they will explore ways to confront discrimination, thus ‘discovering’ alternative means to contribute to tolerance and social integration.

Visit to Pamplona, Spain

The first meeting of the project took place in Spain, Pamplona from the 2nd to the 6th of November 2013. During the meeting, all the participating students got to know each other through warm up activities and poster presentations. They had the opportunity to present their countries to the others, show videos of their everyday life in their respective cities/ villages, dance and learn Spanish dances, go out together, visit Pamplona and be hosted by Spanish families. The meeting was an absolute success and it certainly fulfilled its goals. The students left feeling gratified by the whole experience but also saddened that they would part from their new friends. There were even tears on saying farewell. They promised each other regular contact through social media networks and other ways.
