This is a timeline detailing significant architectural monuments around the time of the Parthenon of Athens, Greece.

Temple of Zeus

The Temple of Zeus, built around the time of the Parthenon is dedicated to the god of its name.

The Parthenon

The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to the patron goddess of Athens, Athena Parthenos.

The Erechtheion

Another Acropolis temple, dedicated to Poseidon.

Destruction

In the year of 1687 the Parthenon was damaged during the Venetian attack on Athens. The Ottomans stored an ammunitions magazine in the Parthenon, which was ignited during the attack. The southern side was severely damaged by the explosion and left like that until the reconstruction in the 1970s.

Reconstruction

In 1975 the Greek government began a reconstruction project on the Parthenon and the larger area of the Acropolis. Using computer models and archaeologist's input, a plan was created and implemented by the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments. Money was also donated by the European Union. As of 2013 it is nearly complete.

Mosque Conversion

When the Ottomans invaded Athens 1456, they converted the Parthenon into an Islamic Mosque as punishment for a rebellious Athenian plot against the Ottoman rule.
