SLCC History

This Interactive Timeline documents the history and evolution of the Salt Lake Community College from its beginnings as Salt Lake Area Vocational School thru the 21st century. Major events in the evolution of the College are highlighted as well as resources from the SLCC Digital Archives such as photographs, online articles, and audiovisual materials. We invite you to peruse this interactive timeline to gain a new perspective about the history of the College.

The resources under the "Audiovisual Material" category are analog out-moded objects from the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Physical Archives digitized in Fall 2013 with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Utah State Library.

Center for Arts and Media Grand Opening

Salt Lake Community College’s new Center for Arts and Media grand opening. MacArthur genius award recipient Bill Strickland helped kick off events November 7 with a keynote address at South City Campus’ Grand Theatre.

President Huftalin Receives ATHENA Leadership Award

The ATHENA Leadership Award was presented to President Huftalin during the Salt Lake Chamber's annual Women & Business Conference. This award recognizes excellent service by an active Salt Lake Chamber Member, particularly in regards to assisting women in the community.

SLCC Honored as "Energy Champion"

The Association of Energy Engineers honors SLCC as an Energy Champion in recognition of the training and programs offered by the SLCC Energy Institute, as well as the conservation efforts of SLCC Facilities.

New Interim Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences

Dr. David Richardson returns to SLCC as Interim Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences.

Inauguration for Deneece Huftalin

Inauguration ceremony for Deneece Huftalin, 8th SLCC President.

LGBTQ+ Pride Crosswalk

Rainbow crosswalk unveiled at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, in honor of LGBTQ+ Pride.

New Respiratory Therapy Program

As of Spring 2018, SLCC School of Health Sciences offers a Respiratory Therapy Program at Jordan Campus.

New Asst.VP for Student Development

Kathryn Coquement is named the new Assistant Vice President for Student Development, effective November 1st.

SLCC Libraries Receive $2000 USHRAB Grant to Digitize Photos

The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board awards $2000 grant to SLCC Library Services. This grant "will fund efforts to digitize approximately 800 photographs documenting SLCC’s past, including convocations, presidential inaugurations, club activities and instructional program activities." Mortuary Science AAS degree

Salt Lake Community College is offering a new AAS degree in mortuary science. There is no other school that offers this degree in the surrounding states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
