First Commercially Produced Colour Short

A Visit to the Seaside (1908) was an 8 minute short directed by George Albert Smith and it showed people doing everyday activities. It has huge historical importance in the industry. Filmed with Kinemacolour which was later replaced by Technicolour.

Flowers and Trees

The first animated short in colour and the first to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short and the first of Walt Disney's 32. First film to use 3 strip Technicolor process.

Yorkton Film Festival

An annual film festival held in late May, it is the longest running short film festival in North America. It was established in 1947 before the first festival taking place in 1950.

"The Island of Doctor Agor" and the emergence of a Tim Burton

Tim Burton made his first short film when he was 13 years old and later worked on a short called Houdini. Burton later went on to work for Disney and become one of the highest grossing directors of all time.

Tin Toy was the first CG film to win an Academy Award for Animated Short at the 61st Academy Awards. Tin Toy is a Pixar film.
