Taeyang's first appearance was in 5th grade in the entertainment industry was in the hip hop group jinusean's music video 'A-yo'
The collaboration from his first appearance in entertainment industry lead him successfully to auditioning into the groups record label "YG Entertainment " where he became one of the rappers alongside G-dragon
Although Dong was scheduled to debut alongside G-dragon as the duo GDYB,their plan was scrapped by their record label.Instead they were joined by four other trainees(T.o.p, Daesung,Seugri,Hyun Seung) to form Big bang!
Before their official debut,Hyun Seung(who was a member of big bang) was dropped and their final lineup consisted of five members.
Dong chose a stage-name 'Taeyang' (Korean: 태양, meaning sun), and abandoned the idea of rapping to focus on singing.
