Original project aims: To develop the more widespread use of enhanced learner information, encapsulated by a revised UCAS electronic application form, as a major contribution to the more flexible admissions process (as recommended by the DfES Schwartz Group report) To do the above in support of Widening Participation in HE, achieving continuity between Progress File in 16-19 education and Progress File in HE; Lifelong Learning To provide a set of generic processes leading to a LIP application profile for post-16 PDP developments and learner transition into HE (including UCAS entry, 2+2 entry, etc), employment or further training

This project produced a reference model of an ePortfolio capable of providing and receiving services from other ePortfolios in other episodes of learning, and of facilitating admissions and transitions between study and employment at different levels.

JOSEPH linked the ePortfolio and Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to explore pathways for young people into Higher Education and support for cross-institutional learning.

Leap Ahead - Lifelong Learning Network for Notts and Derbys

CIePD delivered the ePortfolio and technical strand for Leap-Ahead, the Lifelong Learning Network for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire (LLN), the overarching aim of which was to increase participation into vocational higher education through work with colleges, universities, employers and other partner, providing access to new opportunities and routes to information advice and guidance for learners and employers. This involved early work with XCRI-CAP and regional ePortfolio pilots.

DELIA - Demonstrating Enhanced Learner Information for Admissions

DELIA was designed to examine the variety of admissions practice which uses information additional to that available through UCAS Apply, such as Course Entry Profiles.

ADoM - Admissions Domain Map

ADoM mapped out the variety of UK university undergraduate admissions practice and processes and developed a knowledge base to support sharing good practice and movement to electronic admissions

Leap2A - ePortfolio Interoperability

CIePD were involved at the start in prototyping ATOM based exports for ePortfolio information, initially with Pebble Learning, and then with the University of Newcastle's ePET and Simon Grant from JISC-CETIS. The result was to begin to define a new, and more lighweight ePortfolio interoperability standard, Leap2A.

TAS3 - Trusted Architecture for Securely Shared Services

TAS3 was an 18-partner Integrated Project funded by the European Union FP7 Programme. TAS³ aimed to have a European-wide impact on services based upon personal information, which is typically generated over a human lifetime and is therefore collected and stored at distributed locations and used in a multitude of business processes.

The Inter/National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research convenes research/practitioners to study the impact of eportfolios on student learning and educational outcomes.

Area Prospectus XCRI Aggregation Pilot

The project aggregated 14-19 Area Prospectus course information from five different areas in the East Midlands into Aimhigher in the East Midlands’ Progression Pathways database, as part of a wider project to amalgamate regional courses information. This project resulted in DCSF recommendations to the sector.

SAMSON - Shared Architecture for eMployer, Student and Organisational Networking

The SAMSON project recognised that students themselves are often the best ambassadors for what universities have to offer to business, especially when engaging with an employer for the first time. The project focused on piloting a low-cost technical infrastructure to support postgraduate students going into companies on placements, and employees entering universities to study for continuing professional development (CPD).
