The following timeline provides a key diplomatic history of the United States and the Republic of Korea from the 1950's to the present. The year 2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, the U.S. – ROK Mutual Defense Treaty and the launch of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea among other key events.

U.S. Assists ROK during Korean war
In addition to providing manpower and weaponry to South Korea during the Korean War, the U.S. provides aid to schools, companies, and hospitals. This U.S. aid continued from the end of the Korean War till September 18, 1980, involving organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its predecessor, the International Cooperation Administration.
