Ancient Greece

The lion design was also popular in ancient Greece. One of the most famous gargoyle-studded buildings is the Temple of Zeus.

Ancient Egypt

The first gargoyles were found in Egypt, usually in form of lions. Their main function was as water spouts, but also as educational tools on deities.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

Perhaps one of the most famous buildings in Paris, Notre-Dame is known for its gargoyles. Each gargoyle is unique, and a combination of man and beast.

Amiens Cathedral

The Amiens Cathedral is the tallest complete cathedral in France. One famous statue, The Weeping Angel, accompanies the exterior gargoyles.

Washington National Cathedral

This building is the sixth-largest cathedral in the world. It is known for its "Darth Vader" grotesque.

Cologne Cathedral

The original building was started in the 13th century. But worked halted in the 15th century, and the building wasn't complete until 1880.

Bradley University

Bradley is known for its two original gargoyles on Bradley Hall. The architect who designed Neo-Gothic buildings for the University of Chicago constructed Bradley Hall.

Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk

Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk, located in Belgium, is a Neo-Gothic church with several gargoyles. Part of the construction was influenced by King Leopold II.

Peace Tower

This Ottawa based building was constructed after World War I. It features 370 gargoyles.
