Connor is born in his Mohawk tribe. While his father Haythem Kenway left to establish the Templar Order in the colonies, his mother Ziio is left to take care of Connor.
Charles Lee sparked the beginning of Connor's awakening to the outside world.

Connor finds his main motive, to find Charles Lee and kill him. Lee insulted him and his people. Burned his village, and caused Connor to suffer by watching his mother Ziio die.

The spirit came and gave Connor a revelation. She gave him an insight of what might happen if he does not act. She assures him that he will succeed. Besides the Crosses on top of buildings, there seems to be no indications of religion in ACIII. "Those who came before," seems to be the divine, as they watch over and guide the lineage.
The supernatural force, in this case the "ones who came before" spirit, updated Connor about the corruption of men known as the Templars. If he does not follow his destiny then his village will be destroyed. This encouragement turned into an obligation.
Achilles becomes the one who guides and teaches Conner, the hero, the way of the Assassin.
Connor finds Achiles at Davenport Homestead and asks if him he can be trained. After Connor gets ambushed Achilles rushed out to help him. Achilles, surprised that Connor, without knowing anything about the order wanted to join anyways.
Achilles purposely left Connor in Boston as he was blackmailed to have started the shooting in the Boston Massacre. This was a test, and Achilles explains how sometimes experience can help a student elevate towards his objectives.
Killing Templar's involves stealth and precession, which only Assassin's have. Connor has the weapons he need to defeat the Templars like the signature hidden blade.
Connor is blackmailed, he is being searched for but Samuel Adams made sure that he rigged the printing press.
Connor is now at the end of the threshold. With a set of goals and objectives he will begin to show signs of adaptivity and growth.
Connor begins to learn valuable lessons through trials by Achilles. Achilles warned Connor to be precise when dealing with the Templars. Connor being naive thought why kill Johnson when he can just take away his finance for purchasing his village. But after a few months Williams found out a way. Connor learned that the Templars must not be given any chances because they are very decisive.
