Over the past two years, Gainesville has seen an impressive increase in art galleries.

Plus + becomes Display

The change in name reflects a "changing of the guard between friends," said gallery caretaker Tomis Aycock.

Coming Soon becomes Plus +

The gallery and performance space is now Display.

The Doris Bardon Community Cultural Center opens

The Doris brings gallery space, classes, live performances and artists-in-residence under a single roof.

S.A.W. opens

The Sequential Artists Workshop, or SAW, teaches and displays comic art.

the church of holy colors opens

This space is holy for the visual and aural arts. It's an art gallery, music venue and recording studio.

f.l.a. gallery opens

Run by Kelie Bowman and John Orth, this single-room gallery brings national and international artists to Gainesville.

The Repurpose project opens

This nonprofit takes the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" adage to heart. Their art is made from reused materials.

cofrin asian wing opens

The new wing of the Samuel P. Harn Museum houses an extensive collection of works from China, India, Japan, Korea, South and Southeast Asia.

Coming Soon opens

The gallery and performance space is now Display.

george's meet and produce opens

Woodshop by day, music venue by night. The space also hung UF art students' work.
